Focus on Long-Term, Not Quarterly Figures in Commentary: Columnist

Advisors should provide long-term portfolio performance numbers in their commentaries rather than quarterly numbers to encourage clients to view things from a long-term perspective, maintains Harold Evensky.

He is research professor of personal financial planning at Texas Tech University and the president of Evensky & Katz Wealth Management. As a columnist in the Journal of Financial Planning, Evensky says advisors should also use financial planning projects to show clients the possible downside to chasing the latest hot investment.
